Merry Christmas Everyone!
After a sold out show at the Covey Center in Provo, UT, a surprise fund raising Christmas concert in Herriman, recording a new Christmas Song, and radio appearances on FM100 and B98.7, the band is ready for a Christmas time with their families. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas! See you in 2013!

Thanksgiving Point Waterfall Ampthitheater
The fall show to end all fall shows. I know, right? Bring the family, a light jacket, and all the Shasta Black Cherry you can enjoy. Do they still make that stuff? It was so great...
Oh, the concert. Featuring Nate the Drummer on the very anthemic "Rock Dogs", Craig "Fo Shizzle" Miner on the wailing (and gnashing) banjo, and more surprise songs and classic one-liners than you'll be able to journal about in a week. It's THAT good.
The RubberBand has been all over the country this year, and it's nice to be home for a show. This venue is one of our favorites. See you there!

2012 - The Mayans never saw us coming.
Collectively, as a band, we have decided to take the risk of disregarding the Mayan predictions of apocolypse and just play awesome music instead.
Foolishness? Perhaps. But we prefer to think of it as bravery.
Then again, what ever happened to that magnificent Mayan mega-culture anyway? They imploded. How can we insure that a similar fate doesn't await us all?

Christmas, Christmas Time is Here!
The RubberBand is sequestered in its underground laboratory crafting this years Christmas shows. If you've ever seen one before, look out! This is going to put them all to shame.
With iPhones taped to our heads and a virtual helmet cam for Nate, we made a 5 man helmet cam video... It is Awesome to see the different viewpoints and how they interact with each other. We did this to the song "Simplify". Check it out and let us know what you think.

Big news!Ryan
Shupe and the RubberBand is happy to announce a change in line-up:Bart Olson, veteran RS&RB drummer,
has moved on to greener pastures, and the band has recruited drummer Nate
Smeding to fill the throne.Now,
you’re wondering how this happened?I’ll tell you:
In 2002 RS&RB Technologies, Inc., began Project
B.A.R.T., the Biologically Advanced Rhythm Technician.BART was a great success, and so long
as he was fed, rested, and periodically synced to the bands customized Play
Station 3, he operated flawlessly, drumming behind the RubberBand for nearly 10
years.With periodic mods and
upgrades, BART advanced from a level 3 drummer to a level 10
drummer/percussionist/fiddler with advanced foosball skills and Hungarian Mod.What none of us expected to happen,
though, was that he would gain enough intelligence to desire the autonomy to
pursue other career options.Bart
will be sorely missed, and we wish him all the best. Seriously.
Please note: Bart has reported that after many years of perfecting his methods, he is now prepared to allow a select few (no more than 10) students to learn his advanced drumming techniques. He is accepting applications from potential students at: bartjolson@gmail.com.
So back to the lab!Donning our lab coats, we reopened RS&RB Technologies, Inc., and
began designing BART’s replacement, N.A.T.E.NATE, the Neurologically Automated Tempo Engine, is the next
step in simulated-drummer technology. After dozens of failed attempts at developing the ideal drummer (NATE
v.4 overturned Shupe’s car, NATE v.17 would only play polkas, NATE v.43 wouldn’t
shut up…)He’s punctual,
agreeable, smiley, smells decent, and hits the drums like that’s all he was
ever designed to do, which of course it is.
So there’s the news!Look for the upcoming documentary “N.A.T.E. – Designing the
Neurologically Automated Tempo Engine” on a YouTube near you.And of course, come to a show and see
him in action!

Song Stories, and other hard-hitting news
Shupe is posting "Song Stories", a continuing blog about each song going onto the new album. Check it out; you'll love these tunes before you ever even hear them! In other news, stay tuned for some hard-hitting, earth-shaking (but not in a bad way) news about the RubberBand. There's a strange wind a'blowin'.... (this is foreshadowing - subtle, eh?)

Denver Show Fun For All Ages!
The recent chatter on the web about the Denver concert has inspired us. Most of the members of the band have young children, so we've worked really hard to create a show that parents and kids will equally enjoy. We know how valuable it is to expose your kids to new things, and live music is one of the most important things that they need to appreciate at an early age (at least we think so). So if you're on the fence about the show because it's tough to leave the kids at home for a night, just know that we love it when you bring 'em along! The Denver show is all ages and it will be nothing but a good time for everybody.
Here is a recent post from a single Dad in Denver who is excited to bring his kid to the show because they had such a great time together last time we were in town. We love it!

Amazing Upcoming Show in Denver
Next week, Friday, Jan. 29, the band will descend fresh from the studio to blast through new songs and party it up on stage in Denver, one of their all-time favorite places to play. The band can't wait for the show. Here is a link to great write up for the show:
Hey guys, it has been a while. We have been holed up for the past few weeks while we work on the new album. Things are coming along great- with lots of new songs that range from light-hearted anecdotes about life as a kid, rockin' world-beat inspired grooves, and a couple of deep-down-in-your-soul songs about the struggles of life. In true RubberBand fashion, we bring a smorgasbord of musical tastes to be enjoyed time and time again by all of you, our lovely friends and fans!
Ryan will be tracking vocals for the new album all next week, so please send out your best wishes and prayers into the universe, all of that good karma will come back to make this album reflect a little bit of all of you- and if that is too new-agey sounding for you, then it will, at the very least, help Ryan to get his strong vocal chords back after being sick for about the past 2 months.
We love you all, we can't wait for you to hear the new record, and we look forward to seeing you out on the road in 2010!

Hear all our songs! Read Tilby's ramblings in the blog! Play games! Microwave hot-pockets! See you there!
We just got back from our trip to Seattle and Portland. It was fun
hittin the road in "The Yeti" which is what we're calling our monster
white van. On the way to Seattle, we stopped at Mt. Rainier and
breathed fresh mountain air for a little while. We hiked around and got
a few photos. The Seattle show brought out a bunch of diehard fans, a
couple of em even came all the way from Spokane! We loved playing the
Tractor Tavern again, good times.
Portland was also a great success. We played two shows, one on Fri
night and one on Sat night. The crowds were incredible, the songs
soared in the auditorium, good times were had by all. We even made it
out to Cannon Beach for some R & R on the beach. A couple of band
members spent quite a while wading through tide pools inspecting the
bizarre creatures that emerge at low tide.
Thanks to everybody that came out to see us on our Northwest trek. We'll definitely be back soon!

RubberBand Bad-Boy Attitude Revealed
In a recent skirmish with the law, RubberBand bassist Ryan Tilby was pursued by a police cruiser until he was able maneuver his champagne-gold Nissan Maxima across 3 lanes of traffic to pull over. The officer then exited his cruiser and approached on foot, where Tilby, having rolled down his window, was desperately trying to keep his wits about him. After brief interrogation, it was ascertained that Tilby indeed had violated state speeding regulations and would be facing maximum penalty for said act. In true RubberBand rock-star fashion, Tilby daringly produced ID and a complimentary RS&RB Bumper-Sticker, informing the officer of his intended destination and complimenting his utility belt. With his typical devil-may-care attitude, Tilby even brandished a half-eaten plate of oatmeal-raisin cookies, offering some to the officer. The RubberBand has quite a reputation for being the "bad-boys of Provo", and this latest incident only reassures their fans that the RubberBand is tough; so tough that Tilby left the scene with only a verbal warning and one less oatmeal-raisin cookie. No further investigation in pending, and the officer was unavailable for comment.

The Helmet-Cam - Sandy 2009
The promised footage from Tilby's "Helmet-Cam" from the Sandy Amphitheater performance of "Hey Hey Hey". It's going to make you laugh, and then possibly barf. Good luck.
Our annual Sandy Amphitheater show is coming, and we are PSYCHED!! We've got a couple new tunes that will make you laugh and cry at the SAME TIME! Guaranteed. We just got back from 3 great shows in Colorado - Thanks to those of you who turned out for the gig at Avo's, The Soiled Dove, and Pueblo - here's to you, "Alabama"! That guy has been to that festival for 20 years without fail. If that's not awesome, I don't know what is. (see photo) So, we'll see you at Sandy!
As many of you might know, Ryan Shupe is a trekkie, he can't wait for the new Star Trek movie. Click "Trek" above to see a picture to prove his long-time trekkie status. Several of the band members think that Ryan is secretly a Vulcan.
Thanks to all of you who are coming to the "Living for Eden" concert on Monday night. We really appreciate your support of our good friend Paul Cardall. It should be a great night. Thanks to all of you the show is sold out!
Please remember to come out to the "Living for Eden" benefit concert this Monday, April 6th at Cottonwood High School (5715 S 1300 E Murray, UT) at 7:30pm. All proceeds from this concert will go to our good friend Paul Cardall who is in desperate need of a heart transplant. The concert is named for Paul's 3 year old daughter Eden. We're asking you to please make an effort to come to the concert or if you can't make the concert, please donate what you can by contacting America First Credit Union at www.americafirst.com and tell them that you'd like to contribute to the "Living for Eden" fund.

Paul Cardall Benefit Concert
Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband, Kurt Bestor, Peter Breinholt, along
with other talented artists have scheduled a benefit concert for
their good friend Paul Cardall on Monday, April 6 at Cottonwood High School in Murray, UT. The “Living for
Eden Concert,” so named in honor of Cardall’s 3-year-old daughter, will
get underway at 7:30 p.m. A silent auction will precede the concert
beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Cardall, who was born 35 years ago with a
severe congenital heart defect, has been on the waiting list for a
heart transplant since last August. He has been limited in his ability
to support his family and to meet escalating medical expenses during
his prolonged illness. Seeing their friend’s condition, Cardall’s
colleagues have decided to do what they do best – make music and use
their talents to benefit Paul, his wife Lynnette and their daughter
Eden.
The band is in the process of planning a tour to Japan. Mostly because there is nothing quite as cool as being "Big in Japan" and because several of the band members are really into sushi (not Craig) and some of them also build things with Japanese-like precision (Craig) and there is suspicion that one of the band members is in fact a robot (Craig). Stay tuned for more updates on future Japanese adventures!

The gauntlet is officially thrown down.
After decades of unspoken tension between Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand and the nationally acclaimed and award-winning a capella group T Minus 5, the gauntlet has finally been thrown down. On stage, both bands have proven to be masters of their genres, winning fans and sharing stages - but behind the scenes, they have been drawing invisible lines in the sand for years. You see, musicality aside, each group claims to hold the title for Musical Artist Ultimate Frisbee Champions of the West (MAUFCOW). MAUFCOW, as you well know, is the Ultimate Frisebee duel of doom that dates back to the early seventies, when the Osmond Brothers trounced the BYU Men's Chorus is a 17-0 shutout. And now the rivalry lives on. T Minus 5 has vowed to crush the RubberBand, and has even claimed repsonisibility for a late-night toilet-papering of the RubberBand van. The RubberBand has answered with this challenge: that the two bands meet in a public place during daylight hours to settle this matter once and for all - with a frisbee. The clock is ticking.

Shupe gets press for founding MOOAP.
A bizarre aspect of fame is that the celebrity does not always choose the events that make him famous. In the case of Ryan Shupe, fame found him for his silvery voice and overlooked his heart of gold. Although music has been a love for years, Ryan’s secret passion has been MOOAP, a program he designed to give orphaned monkeys and orangutans homes in civilized countries, in loving homes, as part of stable families. MOOAP, or Monkey & Orangutan Orphan Adoption Program, was born after a terrifically adventuresome journey into the Congo. While the original purpose of the trip was to acquire a trophy lion to be stuffed and placed in his study, his native guide, MmBop, recognized Ryan’s capacity for compassion and introduced him to the local monkey population that lived just outside the village. “I was appalled at the conditions these monkeys are forced to live in,” said Shupe in a recent interview. “I just felt horrible when I saw how uncivilized their environment was: no homes to speak of, no running water, no electricity. I mean, they slept in trees for crying out loud! And they just had to eat whatever they could find in the forest – leaves and bugs and stuff. I said, ‘this has to change’”. And thus MOOAP was created, an organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for monkeys and orangutans around the world. MOOAP places mans nearest relative in mans extra bedroom, where they can begin to adopt the civilized lifestyle they have been denied for too long. Ryan’s own adoptee, Lucy, has been a member of the family for nearly a decade now. Once she was liberated of her primitive jungle habitat, she began to flourish and develop at an unprecedented rate. She has developed astounding abilities hitherto unseen in primate research; she can make waffles, she can mow grass, she can discern between Hostess and Little Debbie with 97% accuracy, and she chooses her own outfits. She attends church, likes The Office, and is a registered Republican. It’s rumored that she may even deserve a co-write credit for her contribution to “Banjo Boy”, a claim that Ryan vehemently denies. “We’ve been so thrilled to have Lucy with us for all these years” says Ryan. “I shudder to think of where she would be if we had left her in the jungle.” When asked about the future of MOOAP, Ryan said “Well, MOOAP isn’t strictly a non-profit organization, per-se, so we’re hoping to grow it as much as possible. You know, for the monkeys.” Ryan Shupe has raised the bar for anyone hoping to make a difference in the world. Contributions to MOOAP can be made in person to any member of Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand at their concerts, where you will receive a special MOOAP Membership Sticker and a free download of Lucy singing “Dream Big” with the band.

Candycorn banned from RS&RB Greenrooms
After years and years of hiding an extreme dislike for candycorn, Ryan Shupe has had enough. Candycorn is now banned from the RubberBand bus, greenroom, and Shupe home on Halloween. When questioned, Shupe stated "I'm not just going to eat something because it's 'what people do'. I'm not going to succumb to holiday pressures."
"I also don't like watermelon", Shupe was heard to say.

Hey all, we have a video coming soon for the single "Be the One", which will be (need I even say it?) AWESOME!! Here's my favorite moment, as promised:
We’ve been getting some great reviews for “Last Man Standing” – here are a few one-liners that entertained us the most!
“If you're looking for a unique album that you're willing to take a chance on, this is it.”
“I never thought anyone loved "Corn Dogs" so much that they could write a song about them, but the final song on this album proves there is.”
“The beauty of a rubber band is that it is simultaneously flexible, strong, and still holds everything together.”
“Bluegrass loyalists may find this happy hybrid insufficiently traditional, and rock fans may think this too pop.”
“Some bands might beat you up and steal your lunch money in a dark alley, but if you actually ran into the RubberBand under those same circumstances, they'd almost certainly help you find the nearest bus stop, wait there with you until your bus showed up and probably even buy you a corn dog.”
“Just came across this album yesterday and downloaded the most popular song listed… then downloaded the entire album after listening to the first song!”
“I can’t stop listening to it!”
“… they aren’t singing just for money, they sing and play because they have fun doing it!”
“Masterful, Magical, Fun, Brilliant, Pure Genius!”
Well, thanks all. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Ryan Shupe has appendix removed yet continues to rock
As many of you know who have been to one of our shows in the past few weeks, Ryan Shupe had his appendix removed and played a show 2 days later. He has been playing shows steadily since the operation about 2 weeks ago. He says that it has been painful, in fact it still hurts after a few weeks, but when he is on stage he doesn't feel as much pain. Shupe is very grateful to the fans for all of their support.
The unanimous winner of our "I can be an Awesome MC" essay contest is Danny Carver. Here's an excerpt from his excellent essay:
"Here is another idea "Who Wants To Be Americas Next Greatest Top Guitar Playing Guitar Guy." It is a very original show. We will have three judges, maybe one would be from the UK, or at least have a funny accent. We would have a contest where guitar players from around the globe would battle it out to become "Americas Next Greatest Top Guitar Playing Guitar Guy." They would all live in a crappy one bedroom apartment. To see what it is like to pay their dues. Then they would have challenges that would show them what it is really like to be a musician. Like carrying your own gear around. We would have a challenge where they have to carry a Marshall stack to the top of the Empire State Building using the stairs. Or race to the top of a mountain and set up a fog machine before playing an awesome guitar solo."
Prepare to be amazed by Danny, our awesome opener, and maybe even us this coming Friday at the Sandy Amphitheater. More info on the tour page.

sound stretching, unicorns, etc
More and more rehearsals for the new album- the band is in rare form. A long list of songs is coming together and everybody is excited to get in the studio soon. Ryan and the band have been inspired lately and the songs are expanding to embrace a broad spectrum of subjects and musical styles, in characteristic RubberBand fashion, there are no limits and no boxes to fit into, just music that mixes everything and anything together to stretch your mind. It will be the best album to date!
As a reference to the kind of sonic explorations you can expect please refer to this excellent guide that the band has found very useful.

East Coast Tour highlights
The east coast has been very good to the band. They returned yesterday from their tour from the Nation's Capital all the way down to Music City. The shows ranged from intimate clubs like the Iota in Arlington, VA to sold out 4,000+ crowds like the Asheville Brewgrass festival and a packed house in Chapel Hill, NC opening up for the great Amos Lee. All along the way the band was amazed at the incredible reception they received as they toured through the hills of Appalachia with its rich acoustic music heritage.

The winged buffalo takes flight
The summer is winding down, but the music is heating up! The band has been in the wood shed pounding out new material and getting ready for some big upcoming shows. Roger says the next couple of shows are going to be "sick". And we all have to agree- after a long summer of shows, the band is most definitely in rare form these days. So if you haven't seen them yet this summer, or even if you have, there is no better way to wrap up the summer than joining the party with all the Shupe fans out there! Read on for a special treat...

RS&RB has a field day in Logan
The band played to a 20,000+ crowd in the Utah State Stadium in Logan
on Wednesday. The stands were packed, but the band was surrounded by
vast fields of green astro turf. The audience was held back from
watching the band front and center on the astro turf because there was
potential for damage. So the band took full advantage of their
opportunity to run around like headless chickens all over the vast
fields of fake grass to their heart's content.

News flash! Ryan's pet monkey has had a baby! It is already learning to

The band gears up for big shows this weekend
If you are anywhere near Boise, ID or Spokane, WA this weekend, you
don't want to miss the shows at the Big Easy. The band has been
practicing hard lately to get pumped up for these shows. The Spokane
show will be "kind of a big deal" as Bart puts it, because he will be
returning to his hometown.
Sorry for the long delay on the latest news about the band. They have
been slammed for the past few weeks in intense practice sessions to jam
on songs for their upcoming new album! Yesterday Ryan unveiled some
never-before-heard songs that are going to cause paint to spontaneously
peel from the walls and men and women, boys and girls, will run wild in
the streets and clap their hands in the air with joy! Yes. It is that
good. No. You should not operate heavy machinery while listening to it.
Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand will be featured on NPR's "Says You" live radio performance that was taped at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

New songs in the studio
The past few days the band has been in the studio recording new songs
for their upcoming cd. They say that writing about music is like
dancing about architecture so lets just say that a new rockin sound is
being born on old-time acoustic instruments and the boys are having a
great time playing the new tunes.

banjo acquisiton tour
So this news is a little bit old, but please bare with us, the band is
still recovering from their latest stint across the country. The band
returned last month from their latest summer tour across the west. It
didn't take long before the entire journey was dubbed "the Banjo
Acquisition Tour". I know that your interest is now piqued and you're
probably salivating at the thought of the surprises that befell the
RubberBand- and let me tell you the acquisition of banjos is just the
start. The surprises along the way were many, the miles were long, and
there were plenty of good times to remember. We would like to tell you
about a few of them...

Telluride Bluegrass Festival
Check out this quick review of the band's performance at Telluride a
few weeks ago. You can see some of the other performers who they shared
the stage with- another incredible festival experience. If you weren't
there, you'll see what you were missing! click here!
The band was in rare form last Friday at their show in Layton. Ryan
sang through the night despite having lost his voice that morning. Bart
played a drum duet with Ryan (on fiddle) but his choice of drum came
from the green room back stage. He played the whole thing on the top of
an orange water cooler with a mic inside. Now you don't see that every
day!
