Continuing with my song by song breakdown of the Brand New Shoes album, I am going to delve into the song “Dandelion”. This song started with a chorus that I had rattling around in my head. “My Dandelion….”, sort of a Reggae summer vibe that I kept singing to myself. I wasn’t sure what this song would become. I soon started realizing that it was about a girl who was a free spirited dandelion. A little wild, but pretty, who loves the sun. Then it hit me as my daughter asked to go on a “flower hunt” to look for flowers and more particularly dandelions. She loved to pick flowers. She has blonde hair and loves to be outside… she was my dandelion. Then the verses fell together. She likes to dance, she is free spirited and she doesn’t like going to sleep. All these elements made it into the song and I think it turned out to be a great song on the album.
